March 11, 7pm Life After High School…The Next Challenge
Join two of our own SEPAC members who will share their knowledge and expertise regarding planning for your child’s life during and beyond the high school years.
Leslie Leslie will present “Getting into College for Students with Learning Challenges.” Leslie will explore the path from high school to two and four-year colleges, covering MCAS and graduation, standardized testing (the SAT and ACT), accommodations, documentation required for colleges, finding the right college to fit your child’s learning style, legal issues at age eighteen, and the role of parents in this process.
Susan Ackerman will present “When College is Not an Option” Susan will speak about the differences between the school years (IDEA) and adult services and the benefits of staying in school until age 22, when possible and appropriate. Other topics will include adult service agencies such as Mass Rehab, the Dept. of Developmental Services (formerly DMR), and the Dept of Mental Health. She will also cover issues about employment and the process of applying for Social Security.
To be held in the Mill Pond Professional Development room.
